We build our tubs from solid, 1-inch- thick mahogany planks. Each plank is mated to the next with a tongue and groove joint, fastened by marine epoxy. Once cured, this joint is actually stronger than the wood itself.

The tub is first sealed with wet-on-wet coats of a highly specialized, water-thin epoxy that sinks deeply into the wood fibres, filling and encapsulating them. After a few hours of drying, but before the epoxy fully cures, we coat it with a layer of polyurethane marine varnish. The underlying epoxy layer bonds chemically to the polyurethane, permanently locking the varnish into the mahogany for lifelong protection.

Five layers of varnish are then applied, each bonding to the layer below it. The polyurethane cures at 80 degrees for four days, after which three further coats of marine matte are applied, providing a deep finish. Only normal, non-abrasive cleaning is required.
